If you are reading my blog, more than likely, you are the "artsy" type or have that creative drive within you in some form or another. Also likely, you have thought more than once about creating hand crafted items to sell, either on the internet or in a shop somewhere. Right?
You thought of Ebay and became overwhelmed at the amount of competition, the intense set up procedures, the high fees and complexity of the entire process.
Trust me, as an artist, I've researched Ebay for years trying to find the secret to selling art or hand made items and actually make a profit. But in my intense digging, I've found few who are actually selling many of their own items with any success.
Now I love blogs. Especially blogs on decorating and art and I read them daily. With the internet being so vast, I get the benefit of their research as well as my own with links to sites of interest.
In a recent blog, I came across the Etsty.com site and decided to peruse a bit.
After spending the past three hours going through their site with my investigative hat on, I have concluded that this is a GREAT site to sell your hand made items and art.
How did I arrive at that conclusion? Simple.... visit the site then click on the sellers "feedback". This will give you the date they started selling along with what they have sold in what amount of time. I'm seeing some great numbers here, meaning that the site is successful in drawing in people who are looking for exactly what you are selling!
It's free to sign up and create an account. Listing a single item only costs you 20 cents verses Ebays high listing fees. Once you item sells, they only charge 3.5% of the closing price verses Ebay's high 8.5%
It's a site mainly for hand crafted items which is also a draw.
So check it out today if you are interested in giving it a whirl and finally selling art or items you create by hand and maybe put a little extra money in your pocket on top of feeling good about the fact that someone values your talents by the purchase of your art!
