I've been a busy girl lately. It's easy to tell since I haven't had time to post on this blog much in the past couple of months. I'm excited to say that I've been working on a custom line of stencils for the Wood Icing Company, owned and operated by Rose Wilde.
Besides, that, I've added new designs to both the wholesale and retail lines of our Raised Plaster Stencils and have been doing work on my own home since we are about to sell it.
I have felt I really needed to tackle the kitchen in this house for quite some time. But as we all do, we tend to put off projects sometimes for the sake of "living life".
In giving the kitchen a new look, I wanted to change the colors of the counter tops and tiles.
Yes, I know, I re-did the counter tops just a few years ago. But I wanted a color change and updated look to the entire kitchen.
We're putting this house on the market in the near future and updated decor style and colors will really help the house sell.
Since I had used a high gloss, oil based varnish over my counter tops, you would think I would have to sand the dickens out of them in order to be able to re-do them but that's not the case.
By using BIN primer by Zinser, I was able to prime right over the top of the varnish with no problems.
I then painted the counter a deep brown and added granite spots using our
Faux Granite Stencil, did a brown color wash over the top then added hand painted veining.
The change was exactly what I was looking for. 4 coats of varnish gave it that brilliant shine that real granite has when it's polished.
Next, I tackled those disgusting little Ivy tiles which I will show you in my next post. They came out spectacular and look like expensive tiles!

I love the way that your counter tops turned out. They look really nice.
Response: Hi Tracy, I'm finding they are holding up just as beautifully as they look.
