Re-do that old basement floor with a new decorative finish!

It's all the rage these days with contractors and if you haven't seen it yet, you will as you continue to watch your favorite HGTV and DIY programs.
Visit the VictoriaLarsen.com website for fabulous decorating ideas, raised plaster stencils, ornamental wall and ceiling molds and mural stencils to have you creating the home of your dreams in no time!

Decorative concrete is quickly becoming "the" surface in home decor. Not only are concrete floors benefiting from this new trend, contractors are now installing concrete counter tops as well! Not only durable, concrete can be as beautiful as fine stone. Polished to a glassy finish and stained to nearly any color or combination of colors, yet at a fraction of the cost of real stone.

With 1500 square feet of concrete flooring in our home in Norther Idaho, I have been researching for quite some time as to my options for giving it a beautiful finish.

There are many methods to giving your concrete floor a new look and the internet is filled with information and how to's.

Acidstainpic1_small Take The Concrete Network as an example. Their website is filled with preparation, acid staining, overlays and other decorative treatments that will have you clambering to get started on your own.

OK, sure the pros make it look easy. Honestly and upfront, it is hard work and it has to be done right but the results are worth it and lend to increased value of your home as well.

So what if you aren't up to the challenge of understanding all the "lingo" the pros use when explaining the processes involved?
Behr creates a "do it yourself" line of products that the average home owner can use to create the same beautiful concrete floors. Behr's line of products are sold exclusively through Home Depot Stores and their website at Behr.com gives you the know how.

Consider their  Semi-transparent Concrete Stain that achieves the beautiful look of natural stone. Together with pre-prep products they provide, you could transform your floor or concrete counter tops just like a pro! This is certainly the option I'm considering.

While you are there, click on the "inspiration" link for other great ideas for walls and home decorating. Behr also provides a tool for coming up with precisely how much paint you will need to complete a room. A wonderful website you want to bookmark and come back to!
